Larue D. Carter Memorial Hospital is an intensive specialized treatment, training, and research center for the Indiana State Mental Health system. It is a 146-bed hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient services for adults, adolescents, and children. The Psychology staff at the hospital is comprised of five clinical psychologists, a behavioral clinician, and support staff. Service units are divided into Adult General Psychiatry, Long-term, Biomedical Research, Transition Services, and Youth Services. One component of the inpatient services is an intensive psychoeducational program for patients and their family members. Youth Services treat those between the age of 5 and 17. These are the primary inpatient child and adolescent training sites of the internship program. In addition, there is an accredited school in the hospital, which is an integral component of the treatment process for children and adolescents. Many rotations for psychiatric residents are held here.
